On leaving the RAF Melanie retrained as a Community Educator and worked within the Third Sector primarily delivering personal development programmes, employability courses and social enterprise start-up programmes for national charities.
It was whilst working for one national youth charity that Melanie initially set up Devenishgirl bakery but, in 2014, she left the charity to establish Devenishgirl bakery as a social enterprise.
Melanie runs Devenishgirl on a part time basis - she is also the part time Development and Delivery Manager for Newman Health & Wellbeing. Alongside her work, Melanie is also a volunteer cook with Choirwithnoname Birmingham - a fantastic charity supporting those impacted by homelessness.
And the name of the business? I'm proud to be from Northern Ireland and so I wanted to not only reflect my cultural roots but also the area where I was born and my granny first taught me to bake...as a child (and even now as an adult!) I loved getting the boat from Enniskillen out to Devenish Island on Lough Erne. And, from such memories, the name evolved!!
Devenishgirl is the trading name of Devenishgirl bakery, a Community Interest Company limited by shares No. 8894320 and registered in England.
